Alstom engaged in the project of Terna and CGES

The project has been led by “Terna”, the Italian electricity transmission system operator, and the Montenegrin Electric Power Transmission System (CGES).

“Alstom” has been operating in the field of energy for 130 years. It is present on all continents and employs more than 17,000 people.

Alstom has been selected by “Toshiba T&D Europe”, which is in charge of constructing two conversion stations in Pescara (Italy) and Kotor (Montenegro).

The fact that one in four light bulbs worldwide is being supplied from a plant built by Alstom shows the size and importance of the company.

For the purposes of connecting Montenegro and Italy via the submarine power cable, Alstom will design and install HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) transmission technology.

The above mentioned equipment will be manufactured at Alstom’s facilities in Sesto San Giovanni and Noventa di Piave in Italy as well as Phoenix, the U.S.A.

“This project is the first electricity bridge connecting the Balkan countries, allowing more green energy to be introduced to the grid. This is well in line with Alstom’s goal to incorporate more clean energy towards a reliable and resilient European electrical grid,” said the Senior Vice President of Alstom Grid, Patrick Palas.

Dnevne Novine daily reminded that the power cable was planned to be put into operation in early 2017.
