Berane: Opening of the 9th Montenegrin summer school for young diplomats

This year’s summer school will be dedicated to celebrating Montenegro’s ten years of independence.

Vera Joličić-Kuliš, Vice State Secretary for political matters in Ministry of Foreign Affairs and EU Integration, spoke at the opening, along with representative of UNDP for Montenegro Fiona Mccluney and Vice Mayor of Berane Dragutin Joksimović.

“We can be pleased and encouraged with our accomplishments – both in interior and foreign affairs. Montenegro, although small, has followed a road of principle; that is not a simple one, but it is strategically strong foreign affairs path. This is what makes Montenegro recognized as successful in the region, as a leader in EU integration, and a responsible and reliable partner. It is our obligation to carry on this road and fulfill expectations”, Kulis said.

She said that from the day Montenegro’s flag waved for the first time on East River in 2006, Montenegro has come a long way towards being invited to NATO Summit in Warsaw this year.

Representative of UNDP for Montenegro Fiona Mccluney said that exchanging experiences, networking and communicating are skills important for successful work in diplomacy, especially today.

“We are pleased that our summer school gathers young diplomats and lecturers from 38 countries in the world. During the next seven days, they will discuss key aspects and principles of modern diplomacy”, Mccluney said.

Vice Mayor of Berane Dragutin Joksimović expressed pleasure at the fact that the school is held in Berane, the city from which Gavro Vuković has started Montenegrin diplomacy.

He said that he believes that the students in the school will justify the trust of the states that delegated them by being energetic, knowledgeable and curious.

Summer school is organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and EU Integration, with the support of Program for development of capacities CDP of UNDP Office in Montenegro.

The school is held from July 18th until 21st.
