CdM checked: Is it true that every year we have “a couple percent more tourists than the previous year”?

Believe it or not, numbers of NTO really show that the number of guests increases every year.

From restoration of independence in 2006 until 2015, the number of tourists has increased by 750 thousands.

In 2006, Montenegro was visited by 953.928 ljudi, and in 2015 there were 1.713.109 tourists.

It can be seen in the table that the number has increased every year. This is the document by MONSTAT.

“In the observed period from 2006 until 2015 the number of tourists that visited Montenegro was increased from 953 thousand in 2006 to 1.7 million in 2015, which is an increase of 79.6 percent. Previous year, 2015, was a record year so far in terms of number of tourists and overnight staysm as well as in income made which was over 800 million euros”, it was said to CdM from NTO.

It is interesting that within the response the NTO mentioned another ‘increase’. This time it was related to two cities from the north of the country, as well as the Capital and the Old capital.

“In north, traditionally the most visted cities are Zabljak and Kolasin which had an increase of overnight stays in 2015 by 39 and 51 percent respectively. A significant increase in number of tourists was noticed in Podgorica and Cetinje too”, it was stated in the response.

Of course, tourists like Budva the most (44%). Second is Herceg Novi (19 %), third is Bar (13%), fourth Ulcinj (9%), fifth is Tivat (6%) and Kotor (3%).

The official document is here, but of course, everyone has the right to remember a legendary statement from the famous Yugoslav sports commentator Zvonko Mihajlovski who once said that “Statistics is like a bikini. It shows everything, but uncovers nothing”.
