Djukanovic: If the Key coalition wins more than 15% of votes, I will carry each of their voters on my back

“I’ve read the coalition leader’s statement that the Key coalition has been supported by 22% voters and DPS only by 37%. Imagine that – a grand coalition stands at 22%, whereas DPS is at 37%, which is by 15% more. And that’s not true, because the DPS has between 40 to 44 percent. If the Key coalition wins more than 15% of votes, I will carry each of their voters who are over 15 percent on my back”, Djukanovic told journalists in Pljevlja.

Asked to comment on DF’s announcement that it will organise protests if it does not win the elections, Djukanovic said that it shows more than anything that they are ready to be defeated.

“If someone tells you – if we do not win, we’ll be on the streets, it means that they are aware that they will not win and that they would like to try to use violence to rewrite voters’ electoral will”, Djukanovic said.

According to him, it is very consistent and in the spirit of DF’s political culture.

“So there are no surprises. But there are no surprises when it comes to the state’s capacity to absolutely reject that and to preserve stability”, he said.

He also said that the opposition representatives in their campaign “note with usual inconsistency that DPS deals with the issues that they put on the agenda”.

PM asked what the government would deal with if the opposition announced that in the event it wins, it will review all the key elements of state politics until now.

“Let me remind you said they would revise our orientation to be an integral part of European policy, since they announced to revise some of the key foreign political orientation of Montenegro,” he said.

He also said that the opposition announced it would review some of the decisions related to our neighbours.

“Let me remind you that they announced to review the state status of Montenegro on which the citizens had decided. What the state policy should say in this case? Only that it would be unreasonable and that it would mean delving into the history, which the opposition only wants to do”, Djukanovic said.

According to him, instead of that, the government wants to look forward.

“We believe that the issues the opposition is dealing with are resolved in the right way and that we should focus on future issues, ie economic development and improving the life quality”, he said.

“Our entire programme is the one defining the path of economic prosperity and improved life quality”, the PM said.

He also commented on the fact that Svetozar Marovic admitted being the head of a criminal group. Asked whether this will affect the outcome of the elections, Djukanovic said that he talked about that several times and that the topic has been reinforced in the campaign.

“Our competitors have returned the topic into focus, since they obviously cannot present themselves in any other way but by the manipulation. So that now, in the absence of arguments, they are talking that this case would bury DPS’ chances. It would not”, Djukanovic said.

He called into mind that this had happened several months ago and that several surveys were conducted in the meantime.

“The surveys say that DPS has been supported by 40-44% voters and that those who criticise us (and this criticism is their only argument), are at about 3% or less”, Djukanovic said.

He reiterated that DPS did not give a mandate to anyone to do anything illegal.

“DPS has given a mandate to act in accordance with the law and the interests of the state. If an individual dared to use that right in a different way, then he will take burden and responsibility for that”, said Djukanovic, adding that generalising such a responsibility to the whole DPS is not either possible or fair.
