Gottemoeller: Coalition for NATO

“It is very clear that Montenegrin voters made a decision on what type of a government they want to have. The results of parliamentary elections are set to create a coalition of parties that are ready to work together to continue accession to NATO. This is a very positive decision in terms of perspectives your state has”, Gottemoeller said.

Commenting on the arrests of Serbian nationals who preparing terrorist attacks in Montenegro, Gottemoeller believes that it is possible to have a successful investigation of this case.

“I know that governments of Serbia and Montenegro have opened an investigation into this situation. Montenegro worked very hard preparing for NATO, so its institutions are strong and it is possible to have a successful investigation. Strengthening of institutions is one of the positive results of NATO accession process”, she said.

She believes that the ratification will be done during the first few months of 2017.

Gottemoeller was the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security for the U.S. State Department.

Impressed by Montenegro’s beauty and smart students

“I have been here for four hours only. Everyone has always said Montenegro was beautiful. During my flight, I could see mountains, rivers, lake, sea. It is truly beautiful and I hope to have time to explore more. I am impressed with natural beauty, and I am also impressed by how smart the students are. I like talking to students all over the world. Sometimes the audience is shy and they do not ask questions. There is no discussion and it becomes boring. Here we had a lively discussion, smart questions, our debate was very good. I hope I convinced them that NATO membership is the right choice for Montenegro, because it provides safety, stability and prosperity. Montenegro can also contribute to these values within NATO”, she said.
