Jasavic: EU adjusts the Montenegrin society to European standards

Jasavic congratulated Orav on his appointment and thanked him for visiting.

“It is impossible to imagine Montenegro’s path towards the European Union without its strong support to our country. The European Union as a powerful locomotive initiates adjusting Montenegrin society with European standards, which represents the Montenegrin people’s interest”, Jasavic said.

Montenegro steady progress on its EU path and 24 opened and 2 provisionally closed chapters are the result of four year negotiations.

“Montenegro needs strong, depoliticised and professionalised institutions. This is possible to achieve only if Montenegro is successful in the Euro-Atlantic integration. Fortunately, the majority people are oriented in that way”, Jasavic said.

She pointed out that for the first time, after 27 years, the opposition in Montenegro got the opportunity to participate in the government’s work and thus to control the electoral process.

She also emphasised the constitutional reforms, as well as appointing the supreme State Prosecutor and Special Prosecutor were very important.

“There is no legal certainty without rule of law, and there is no economic recovery without legal certainty”, Jasavic said.

She added that a lot has been done when it comes to foreign policy and that Montenegro’s course in that sense was good. However, as she said, in terms of internal policy, changes are necessary, particularly in the fields of economy and laws implementation.
