He said to Pobjeda daily yesterday that “request for ceasing his mandate was submitted to Prime Minister Đukanović on Monday November 7th”.
“I reached this decision at an earlier time. I want to be more dedicated to my job. For over a year and a half I was both a director and a surgeon. Simply, I must stop working 17h day. Choosing between being a director and a surgeon was no dilemma. I have been perfecting my job for over 27 years, and everyone should do what they know best”, he said to Pobjeda daily.
He confirmed that he did not put in his resignation with Minister of Health Budimir Šegrt, saying he sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister, because he was the one to sign off on his position. He considered it moral and grateful to resign with him.
“This has nothing to do with my alleged conflict with Minister Šegrt”, Lazović claims.
He also denied that his resignation has anything to do with new government.
” will continue being a director until a new one is chosen”, Lazović said.
He expressed gratitude to his employes on support and cooperation during his mandate.
Ranko Lazović MD became a director of Clinical Center in April last year, after Milan Mijović MD resigned. After the new Healthcare Law passed in March, Šegrt nominated him again, and the Government accepted it.
In April last year, he fired many directors of clinics, 14 of them, and created new teams.
Introducing obligatory additional hours, he cut down on waiting lists. 12.346 patients were moved from the lists during his mandate.
During his mandate, ER, Center for digestive surgery were reconstructed, sanitation was handled in the whole Clinical Center, as well as exterior works. Lazović initiated cancer therapy to happen in Bijelo Polje for the citizens who live in the North, instead of them having to come to Podgorica for procedures.
No comments in the Ministry
Ministry of Health stated that they were not informed of Lazović’s resignation.
There are already guess as to who will come after Lazović.
Most serious candidates so far are president of Board of Clinical Center Jefto Eraković and director of Clinic for anesthesiology, reanimation and pain therapy Hasib Lukač MD.
