The main topics of the two-day meeting of ministers include the Alliance’s adaptation to modern security challenges, improving collective defence, as well as strengthening cooperation with partner countries and international organisations, primarily the EU.
As announced by the Defence Ministry, the ministers discussed the overall activities in the field of improving defence capabilities of the alliance and positively assessed the progress made in terms of investment in the member states’ defence systems. It will be continued through efforts in the fight against terrorism, extremism and preserving the democratic values of modern society.
Pejanovic–Djurisic said that Montenegro was committed to the allied efforts to strengthen collective defence and project stability beyond the borders of NATO.
“Montenegro is ready to further contribute to the alliance’s priorities within its means”, she added.
The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange views on the agenda and decisions to be taken at the upcoming summit in Warsaw on 8 and 9 July.
Pejanovic–Djurisic had a bilateral meeting with her French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian. The y discussed the further enhancement of cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.
Le Drian said that the signing of the Accession Protocol was evidence of the success of the reforms and that his country would take the necessary measures to ratify the protocol as soon as possible.
