Ministry: We won’t allow discussion to be diverted to politics and ideology

“That is just one of many obvious attempts to divert the discussion about the Draft of the law for freedom of religion to the field of politics and ideology, which the Ministry will not allow”, it was said from this institution.

They also said that the statement that the law was written by atheists is incorrect.

“Nobody has the right to play games with anyone’s religion. Draft of the law was written by those who are legally authorized to do this job, and their personal beliefs are their own matter. Working group for writing the Law for freedom of religion was formed in July of 2014 and it did its job professionally within its mandate, which was confirmed by the government on a meeting from 30th of July this year when it unanimously agreed upon the Draft of the law for freedom of religion”, it was explained in the ministry.

Ministry welcomes Amfilohije’s decision to change sides from being an opponent to being for Montenegrin membership in EU.

Considering that the public discussion about the Draft was extended until 30th of September, Ministry for human rights and minorities is inviting representatives of all religious communities to continue with constructive dialogue about the law so all disagreements could be solved.

“We need honest commitment to cooperation and tolerant discussion, and Ministry would like to confirm that it has such commitment”, it was added.

Ministry would like to inform all interested individuals that fear of losing any rights is irrational, especially the property rights.
