Montenegro became a member of two more global LGBT initiatives

Our country was also accepted in the international Coalition of state for equal rights, with the goal of further equality in the world. The Coalition is joined by countries such as US, Canada, France, UK, Sweden, Norway, Scotland, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Advisor to the Prime Minister for human rights and discrimination protection Jovan Kojičić, who represented Montenegro at the conference, said that the acceptance our country received in these global initiatives represents yet another reason that Montenegro is recognized as a protector of LGBT rights in Western Balkan. The Government of Montenegro has received yet another affirmation as a protector of LGBT community.

The conference, whose organizers are governments of Uruguay and Netherlands, was opened by ministers of foreign affairs of these states Rodolfo Nin Novoa and Bert Koenders. Secretary General of UN Ban Ki Moon also spoke via video connection.

The conference was attended by 200 different government officials and activists of international LGBT organizations. Kojičić presented Platform for promotion of difference and LGBT inclusion in Western Balkan as OutLeadership Initiative that is lead by Montenegro’s Government for Western Balkan region. The Platform entails a wide spectrum of educational programs available to governments, NGOs and others, with a goal of improving human rights of LGBT individuals at the national, regional and international level.

“Information, practices and experiences were exchanged at the conference in Montevideo, at bilateral and multilateral levels. The intention is to enable better coordination of financial and political support of government and other organizations interested in improving human rights and inclusive development of LGBT individuals”, it was stated in the Government.
