At this stage of joining the Alliance, Montenegro can be involved in preparations of the Summit, it may contribute to meetings with suggestions and opinions, but it cannot be part of the decision-making process.
Since it signed the Accession Protocol, Montenegro has been participating in all working meetings of NATO as an observer.
Montenegrin delegation in Warsaw is led by Mr. Djukanovic and it includes the Minister of Defense, Milica Pejanović Đurišić, and Montenegrin Ambassador to NATO, Dragana Radulovic.
The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said earlier that the heads of NATO member states will use the event in Warsaw to make key decisions of importance to strengthening of the Alliance’s defense.
Since the last Summit in Wales in 2014, NATO has strengthened the collective defense of the Alliance, which represents the most powerful strengthening of collective defense of NATO since the Cold War.
“The Warsaw summit will be used to agree upon improving our military presence in the eastern part of the Alliance”, said Stoltenberg, meaning deployment of four battalions in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
NATO plans to open formal talks with Russia shortly after the Summit in Warsaw.
