Ebadi, who is coming to Podgorica from Great Britain, will speak at the first regional Convention of the women of Western Balkans, which starts on 25th of May in Podgorica.
Besides writing several books and articles on human rights, Ebadi is the founder of the Association for support to children’s rights and Center for defense of human rights, and her arrival to Montenegro is of great significance, since gender equality is one of the key factors in the rule of law, but also because our country ratified the Resolution of the UN Security council 1325 women, peace and security in year of 2000, which started the process of changing the legislation in all of the countries of the world through the prism that wmen’s rights are inseparable part of human rights.
Ebadi became the first female president of a city court in Teheran in 1975, as well as the first female judge in Iran. However, because of the oppression of Iranina authorities towards women, her work has been forbidden from 1979 until 1993. When she returned to law, she focused on cases that enabled her to fight for civic rights, with special focus on women and children.
In year of 2004 magazine Forbes put her among 100 most powerful women in the world, and she’s also on the list of 100 most influential women of all times.
