Pejanovic Djurisic: Montenegro as a NATO member is a reliable partner to other countries

She participated in the forum To Be Secure which is being held in Budva. The minister said that Montenegro had passed through an extremely intense and challenging period of reforms, the successful implementation of which is crowned by the most important event since its independence renewal – by receiving NATO invitation.

“At the stage of conducting accession negotiations with the alliance, Montenegro also demonstrated its readiness for membership, because the negotiations were carried out without any delays. As it was the case with the previous stage, we have also prepared this stage of joining the alliance and carried it out well together with our partners. Understanding was mutual”, said Pejanovic-Djurisic.

She added that NATO had the necessary know-how, adequate stuff, resources, finances and sufficient solidarity among its members to respond to the current security challenges.

“Bearing in mind that the alliance is a significant and recognisable international factor, it is expected to remain faithful to the strategic concept of collective defence, cooperative security and crisis management, as well as that Montenegro’s presence at the summit will confirm existing of NATO enlargement policy”, the minister said.

According to her, by membership in NATO, Montenegro wants to be a contributor and to actively participate and contribute to addressing security challenges.

“All current security issues should be viewed as an opportunity to reach their resolution through establishing the necessary balance, particularly by strengthening mechanisms that will prevent the occurrence of the crisis and possible conflicts”, she said.

Speaking of the Western Balkans, Pejanovic-Djurisic pointed out that the progress and achievements of Montenegro in Euro-Atlantic integration were important not only to the people of Montenegro, but also for the entire region.
