PHOTO: Earth Hour successful in Montenegro

NGO Green Home put together this event. During the first part, documentary films on climate change and environment protection were shown, after which the lights were turned off, and a performance with candles was done. The message was clear – we must use natural resources in a more rational manner and change our bad habits in order to protect the planet and natural environment.

Podgorica, Ulcinj, Bar, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Petrovac, Budva, Cetinje, Berane, Mojkovac, Pljevlja and Kolašin took part in this action by turning off the lights on main city squares, promenades and boulevards, showing that even small country such as Montenegro can actively participate in decreasing the effects that lead to climate change.

“Traditionally, Montenegrin Electric Transmission System monitored the usage of energy during the Earth Hour on the country level. The most savings were made in Danilovgrad, close to 10%, and in Podgorica, 6%.  The whole country saved 0,6% of energy”, they said in NGO Green Home.

In Podgorica, lights were off on bridge Millennium, business spaces UNIQA Insurance, The Capital Plaza, Telekom, Telenor, m: tel, Merkator, Mall of Montenegro and Hotel Ramada.

Montenegro’s Parliament has also joined last night’s world action Earth Hour, by turning off the lights in the Parliament’s building from 20:30h to 21:30h. ITC and electronic system were at the operational minimum during this hour.

NGO Green Home thanked the Capital City and Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, and all state and private subjects that have supported the campaign’s successful implementation this year.
