PHOTO: Independence Day celebrated in Herceg Novi

Nevena Keković of Municipality Committee of DPS opened the ceremony, saying that today marks two important events: our famous history and history that is yet to be written, the one we are writing now for our children.

To the young people, she said that they have a lot to be proud of in their country, stepping on its soil that belongs to all of us equally.

“It is hard to reach an ideal, but it is not impossible. Effort, dedicated work, will and persistence take us there. This is the day we celebrate symbolically – with culture, with sport, and in one special way – with ten olives that mark ten years of independence of Montenegro, and ten centuries of our statehood. Olives symbolize peace and longevity. We all want freedom, peace and future for our country”, Keković said at the opening.

After the opening, a concert of „Đir muzika“ began, along with City Music of Herceg Novi and Town Music of Đenovići. They walked to the square of Nikola Đurković, where the race began.

Competitors ran a shorter and longer track with the end goal on Škver. On the longer track Dragoljub Koprivica was the best, followed by Perica Vučković and Uroš Vujičić. Longer track for women was won by Đorđina Gugolj, followed by Lidija Vukić and Anđela Davidović.

The best of young people were Mirko Konjević and Jelena Zorić. Second and third were Filip Aleksandar and Miloš Radovanović, and in women category Nataša Radović and Anđela Rogač. The best received medals and trophies.

Two concerts are set to happen tonight. At the terrace of Hotel Rudnik a band Stari kapetan will play, and on Škver Boka bend. Both concerts are set to start at 20:30h. In accordance with tradition, guests will be gifted dry figs and rakija as a sign of welcoming.
