Viewers on the stadium and all over the world enjoyed a spectacular ceremony. We got introduced to Brazil’s past and present, its culture, and global issues faced by planet Earth.

207 delegations made a ceremonial walk, and were greeted by fans from the stadium.

Winner of bronze from the Games in Athens Vanderlei de Lima lit Olympic torch, although it was speculated that the honor would be given to former tennis player Gustavo Kuerten.

Two times winner of Roland Garros brought the torch to the stadium, and Lima lit the fire.

The Games will go on until August 21st.

This is the third time Montenegro is present independently at the Games, and it has one silver in handball in London four years ago.
