Thus, she became the first female municipality head in Tivat’s history. After taking an oath, Matijevic said she was proud to be the first female president of Tivat, the town where she was born and grew up.

“Therefore I will be committed to make Tivat even better and more perspective for everyone. It is a great honour for me, but also a great obligation and responsibility. This responsibility is reflected not only in maintaining the results achieved so far, but also in continuous work on making the town better, its further development through the planned infrastructure projects, sewerage, roads, resolving social and housing issues. We must not forget the care of the elderly population, young people and persons with disabilities. We will also work on improving our cultural, sports and social life”, she added.

The session was not attended by councillors of Croatian Civic Initiative (HGI), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Socialist People’s Party (SNP) and Arsenal Tivat, whereas the councillors of Tivat Action and Democratic Serb Party left it before the voting. Matijevic was supported by 22 councillors of DPS, SD, and BF.

Matijevic went to primary and high school in her hometown, graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry in Belgrade, where she got a master and M.D. degree. She is an associate professor at the Medical Faculty in Podgorica. Since 2006, she has been head of the Tivat health care centre.
