Seven Montenegrins in jail for unpaid alimony

Pursuant to statistics, the average time period of failing to pay alimony mostly covered the period from four to six months, for which prison sentences ranged from 30 days to four months, DN learned from the state penitentiary (ZIKS) department of public relations.

Out of the aforementioned 38 cases, 21 are still pending before the court, while in two cases, the accused were already found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment.

“In the first case, the defendant was found guilty of the criminal offense and sentenced to imprisonment of 40 days, and is required to pay the injured party, through the legal representative, the child’s mother, the sum of 3.550 euros”, said Anja Krkeljić, spokeswoman for the Basic Court.

This amount, as she explained, refers to unpaid alimony payments from January 21, 2012 to February 21, 2016.

“In the second case, the defendant was found guilty of the criminal offense and sentenced to imprisonment of 30 days, and is required to pay the amount of 3.522.60 euros”, added Krkeljić, explaining this is for the unpaid alimony for the period from June 1, 2010 to November 15, 2010 and December 12, 2012 to June 7, 2015.
