The resolution states that a large number of citizens of Montenegro expressed their preference to directly decide on Montenegro’s accession to NATO military alliance.
“Since we are aware of the responsibility of the moment and need to democratically resolve the situation which Montenegro faced after receiving NATO invitation, Montenegrin Parliament considers that this issue should be resolved in a fair and free referendum”, the document says.
It is emphasised that respect for the will of the citizens is the highest national priority and that the issue of NATO membership is a decision that will significantly determine the future of Montenegro.
