Submarine cable expected on October 4th

The mainland part of the cable in Montenegro is about six kilometers long.

On the Italian side, in Pescara, 136 kilometers of the undersea cable have already been laid. The total length of the cable will be approximately 440 kilometers. Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro issued a building permit to Terna Montenegro in early August.

Building permit is issued for the installation of the 500 kilovolt (kV) HVDC underwater / underground cable for electricity transmission.

The route starts at the cable’s entry into the territorial waters of Montenegro and ends with a connection to the converter station in Lastva Grbaljska, municipality of Budva.

Undersea cables will cross the coast by being routed through the previously deposited HDPE pipes. The entry point of this pipe into the sea is at a depth of ten meters.

It was also announced that, at the same time, an optical cable for telecommunication will be installed as well. Investor loses the right to build if they do not start construction of the facility within two years.

Agreement on linking Italy and Montenegro via energy cable was signed in mid-November 2010. The total value of the project amounts to around one billion euros.
