Tannock: Agreement is a generous offer from Djukanovic

He added he expects the agreement will be signed.

“Parliamentary elections happen soon. On the table is an agreement between the Government and the opposition, which has been obtained through a way that can only serve as an example. This is a generous offer. It means that elections will be held in such a manner that the opposition will not be able to later claim that the government used state resources in the campaign. I think this is a wise move from the part of Mr. Djukanovic, and I am glad that it will be accepted by the opposition”, said the European envoy, reports Portal RTCG.

Commenting the stumbling block to the final agreement, the control of the Public Service, Tannock said that, by the standards of European legislation, with which Montenegro harmonized, any political interference, either by government or the opposition, in the work of the state broadcaster is unacceptable.

“I personally believe state broadcasters should be outside the direct control of the Government. I do not like the politicization of the state broadcaster. If this is the case, not wanting to single out Montenegrin Public Service, I think there should be a neutral body to manage it, and its representatives should not be members of any political party”, he said.
