Telecom affair: Obradovic and Ivanovic questioned on orders of the Prosecutor’s Office

The investigation against them was launched due to three consulting contracts from 2005, which the American investigation into the case found to be false, writes Dan.

Oleg Obradovic confirmed for the daily that he was interrogated in the prosecutor’s office regarding the Telecom affair, but added further detail should be sought from authorities.

Lawyer Zoran Piperović, who with his colleague Dragoljub Djukanovic represents Obradovic and Ivanovic, confirmed that two former executives of Telecom are now under official investigation.

“As defenders of Oleg Obradovic and Miodrag Ivanovic, we attended their hearing before the deputy special prosecutor, Sasha Cadzenovic. Obradovic and Ivanovic are being charged as co-perpetrators of the criminal offense of abuse of position in business operations. Disposition for investigation is very broad and description of their alleged discrimination is written almost like a novel. The disposition claimes alleged damages of some 2.3 million euros”, said Piperović for Dan.

According to him, the accused were very concise, clear and coherent in presenting their defense; they answered all prosecutor’s questions and gave a very objective, compelling and, most importantly, true statement.

“They explained the whole procedure that was in use at the time. I don’t know how the prosecution plans to prove that my defendants illicitly did anything, especially since it is evident that the Hungarian Telecom, which is now the owner, did not report not suffer any damage. And if there is no damage, then there is no offense”, said Piperović noting that he did not hear any evidence that his defendants acquired unlawful material benefit.

The investigation, according to the media, mentioned the name of the Prime Minister’s sister, Ana Kolarević, although she was not included in the order for launching the investigation.

Parliamentary Inquiry Committee also questioned Obradovic and Ivanovic three years ago, who then said they could not talk about the Telekom matters without permission of the former employer.

The investigation into the privatization of Telekom was launched in late 2011, after US authorities said they have evidence that privatization of Montenegrin Telekom invlolved corruption. US authorities have established that Magyar Telekom in the purchase of Telecom bribed several Montenegrin officials with a total of 7.35 million euros.
