Ulcinj citizen fought in Syria for a 100 dollars salary

Beharović is a follower of radical Islam, and he explained in detail the way he found into the circle of indoctrination and recruitment of ISIS. He quickly found himself in a dire situation in war ridden Syria, and all for a small salary of 100 dollars a month, Dnevne Novine daily writes.

He prepared for 12 years

This Ulcinj citizen was  regular Muslim until 12 years ago, when he started accepting radical beliefs and ideas. He then started going to closed communities meetings, and of those communities became his home in Ulcinj.

“In the meantime, Beharović made contact with like minded individuals from other cities and the region, for example Kosovo, Novi Pazar (Serbia), Gornja Maoča (BiH), Albania. He made connections with several Montenegrin citizens as well, former colleagues in ISIS, Mirza Haklaj from Podgorica, Semih Kojić from Plav, Asim Luković and Damir Muratović from Ulcinj”, source said to Dnevne Novine daily, explaining that Beharović mostly confirmed intelligence Montenegrin safety services had.

Illegal travels

Beharović arrived to Syria by the end of December 2014, with his wife and underage daughter. Unofficially, his main connection is Syria was Mirza Haklaj, who got killed shortly thereafter.

“Money for travel Beharović received through Haklaj, over Turkey and Austria. He was awaited at the airport by unfamiliar individuals. He and his family spent two weeks in Turkey, until the conditions were met for their illegal transfer to Syria. Everything was organized down to the last detail”, the source said to DN.

Who else was at the war front?

Once they arrived in Syria, this Ulcinj family got free accommodation and food, and they had to live humble and modest life. Hamid’s monthly salary was 100 dollars, which he claims was “enough”, because his interest was to “make a sacrifice for ISIS”.

When in Syria, he kept contact with all the soldiers from Montenegro, BiH, Kosovo and Serbia. SOme of them were Damir Muratović, Omar Redžepagić and Džemal Canović from Plav, and Adem Mustafić and Damir Slaković from Bara.

In the meantime, Haklaj and Slaković got killed during fights.

New investigations pending

Beharović was one of the nine ISIS fighters Prosecution investigated, and who will be arrested as soon as they return to Montenegro. Beharović pleaded guilty and named his colleagues, which will serve to open new investigations.

According to relevant international reports, returns from foreign war fronts are increasing. According to analysis from regional safety services, 200 jihadists returned to their homes by June 20th, 28 of the women. Most of them returned to Kosovo, BiH and Macedonia. Around 20 of them from Serbia and three from Montenegro decided to postpone their return, hoping they would avoid punishment. This list featured Beharović until two days ago.

Montenegro prohibits its citizens to fight foreign wars, treating the matter as  crime per Criminal regulation. Punishments of jail from 2 to 10 years go to those who recruit, organize, manage, transport or train individuals or groups with an aim to have them join foreign army formations. Those who financially support Montenegrin citizens in joining wars abroad are also subject to punishments of jail.

Money transfers well hidden

Beharović confirmed yet another suspicion of investigators, which is that ISIS keeps connections to Balkan using internet. Their financial transactions are well hidden, wired over systems all over the world, taken from accounts and transported to Syria.

Mother and brother in German asylum

According to intelligence services, Beharović’s mother and brother are currently in one of the asylum camps in Germany.

How did two of them acquire such status is not known, but this type of immigrants is under close attention of resident services due to threats of terrorism.

Investigation results show that asylum holders are those who perform or manage terrorist attacks that are threatening EU countries.
