UN Debate: Lukšić dedicated to the youth

„We can not just go on expressing our condolences and being sad. People will stop believing. We need to do more action and be more responsible“, Lukšić said.

As the youngest candidate, he won sympathies on social networks during the debate.

„We need to be dedicated to women and youth. 50% of world population are people younger than 25. The choice of Secretary General is more than geographical or gender decision”, he said.

Other candidates in the race are former diplomats from Serbia and Croatia, Vuk Jeremić and Vesna Pusić, current Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčak. There is also former president of Slovenia Danilo Turk and Srđan Kerim, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Macedonia.

The most recognizable name is Helen Clark, chief of UNDP and former Prime Minister of New Zealand. Irina Bokova from Bulgaria, director of UNESCO, is also in the race.

Moldova’s candidate is Natalia Gherman, former Minister of Foreign Affairs. From Portugal, former Prime Minister and UN representative for refugees, Antonio Gutierrez.
