23 people under investigation over attempted terrorist act

The circle of people suspected of planning terrorist attacks in Montenegro is expanding. Currently, 23 people are under investigation, the Special Prosecutor’s Office stated.

On the occasion of this crime, the Democratic Front leader Andrija Mandic’s driver, Mihailo Cadjenovic was arrested on Tuesday. He has been remanded in custody for up to 72 hours.

In addition to him, the prosecution suspects Ananije Nikic for the same offense. He is allegedly close to Mandic. Currently, he is not in Montenegro.

The media had earlier reported that the Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic questioned Cadjenovic on late January. The hearing was held after the former Serbian intelligence officer Slavko Nikic brought Andrija Mandic in connection with the attempted coup in Montenegro on election day on 16 October 2016.

“Special State Prosecutor’s Office extended the investigation order in the case relating to creation of a criminal organisation and terrorism attempt to include two persons – A.N. and M.C. By the order extension, the investigation of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office in this case includes 23 people,” the Special Prosecutor’s Office stated.

Commenting on Cadjenovic’s arrest, DF leader Andrija Mandic said on Tuesday that Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic was trying to construct another false case against DF as local elections in Niksic were getting closer. Mandic said that for each head from DF that rolls someone else’s would roll as well.

DPS’s response came immediately. At a convention in Niksic on Tuesday night, DPS president Milo Djukanovic said “that if it had been according to DF’s plans, heads would have been rolling across Montenegro long ago”, adding that “we would know how to respond”.
