Secretary general of the Union of Free Trade Unions (USS) Srdja Kekovic says it is high time to reduce the burden on wages, abolish the crisis tax introduced in 2013, increase the tax rate on profits and bring 40,000 moonlighting workers into legal channels. It is inevitable, he says, to increase the minimum wage, which has not been changed for years and amounts to €193.

“The burden on earnings is high, so it’s time to reduce the burden and finally remove burden of the crisis from employees and citizens. The union has long demanded the abolition of the crisis tax, which was introduced in 2013 initially as a measure that would last for a year or two, but it has been kept with a slight decrease. The abolition of the crisis tax would mean a lot to both employers and workers, as it would open up the possibility for new employment,” Kekovic said, commenting on the government’s announcement of a possible reduction in contributions and the proposal of the Central Bank to reduce the tax on profit and eliminate or reduce the crisis tax.
