In an interview with Pobjeda daily, German Ambassador to Montenegro, Robert Heinrich Weber, told Montenegro has showed that courageous political decisions can turn the impossible to possible. He added that the aim of all democratic forces of a country should lead to a political confrontation in the parliament.

He said: “A healthy democracy requires a government capable of taking actions and having control in the country’s parliament. This also includes an active opposition in the parliament. Experience shows these are the expectations of voters as well.”

On the claims that Montenegro represents a huge change in the Western Balkans, Weber emphasized that Montenegro’s firm decision to implement political, legislative and organization changes in order to get closer to the EU, not only made it “the leader in the EU integration among other Western Balkan countries, but it brought some concrete benefits to citizens, as visa liberation, for example.”

“Obvious progress in the negotiation process should continue in years that follow in order to keep pace in the accession process to the EU. We jointly work on the opening of Chapter 27. It’s also important to successfully conclude negotiations in once opened chapters. Elections in the European Parliament won’t affect this process but the country’s concrete achievements within negotiations. Germany supports Montenegro on its road to the EU among other things through engagement of its experts in the field of environment protection,” Weber said.
