Abazović-Popa meeting: EU is a major partner of new govt, Montenegro to implement reforms asap

The major priority of the new government must be an ultimately decisive continuation of the EU integration so that Montenegro might complete the required reforms and become the EU member state as soon as possible. The URA movement, being a strong European partner, will remain fully committed for this goal, especially in terms of closing the negotiation chapters 23 and 24 that refer to justice reform and fight against corruption – the leader of the civic URA movement Mr Dritan Abazović has noted following yesterday’s meeting with the newly-appointed EU Ambassador, Ms Oana-Cristina Popa.

A statement from URA says that Abazović has been satisfied with the overall cooperation between Montenegro and EU representatives, that he thanked the formed EU Ambassador Mr Aivo Orav for everything he had done for the democratic processes in Montenegro, whereas the new Ambassador pointed out that the new government could expect full support of its European partners, looking forward to their future cooperation.

“The EU has been monitoring the process of the formation of a new government, ready for even greater cooperation on Montenegro’s path to integration. In this regard, the EU is offering its capacities, primarily experts, so that Montenegro can close the remaining negotiation chapters in a very short time and thus complete the integration process,” Ms Popa underlined.

Mr Abazvić emphasized that he was convinced that the new government, liberated from the burden imposed by the previous one, would “carry out all necessary reforms on Montenegro’s EU path” in a shorter time and more efficiently.
