Accumulating debts: Podgorica Public Cleaning Services owes over €3m to Landfill Company

Aleksandar Božović

Podgorica Public Cleaning Company owes more than €3m to Podgorica Landfill Company, although it regularly pays installments to pay off the debt. As Aleksandar Bozovic, the Landfill Company director, told Dan, Public Cleaning Company regularly pays installments in the amount of €100,000.

“In principle, they accumulate new debt every month. Public Cleaning Company’s monthly bill is €215,000. However, the company only pays €100,000 per month. That’s how it accumulates over €100,000 in debt every month. Now the debt is over €3m and in a year it has increased by €2m”, says Bozovic.

He adds that last year the Landfill Company gave up on the idea of separating the accounts because it would not benefit the Public Cleaning Company.

“Citizens would be confused because they would receive two bills because they do not distinguish between collection and treatment of municipal waste. Separating the accounts of the Public Cleaning Company would make the situation more difficult, and we didn’t want that. I believe that with the new public function, we will agree to payment”, says Bozovic.

He states that the Landfill Company has no debts, except for regular operations, which are settled on time. However, some municipalities owe certain amounts to the company.

The fact that the Podgorica Budget has not been adopted yet is shifting the deadlines for the implementation of projects, Bozovic stresses.
