Amfilohije banned from entering Parliament

Metropolitan Amfilohije came to Parliament to visit DF MPs who have been there for four days.

MPs met the metropolitan in front of the Parliament building. The Democratic Front (DF)  leader Andrija Mandic said that the parliament speaker Ivan Brajovic banned Amfilohije from entering the building.

“We will not withdraw and we will not allow anyone to change Montenegro. Thank you for coming. We are embarrassed on behalf of the parliament speaker who has told me that you are not allowed to enter the building. Base on the decision of one man, the anti-Christian authorities do not allow you to enter. Forgive me for the harsh words,” Mandic said.

The Movement for Changes (PzP) leader Nebojsa Medojevic thanked Amfilohije for coming.

“I am ready to go to court and defend my honour and freedom,” Medojevic said.

The metropolitan said that these events made every normal person sad, adding that the time will come for the Montenegrin metropolitan to be in the Parliament, where he belongs.

“We hope that the time will come for the Metropolitan of Montenegro to be in the Parliament again, where he belongs in true Montenegro. What is happening now is something that makes every normal people sad, but it’s not coincidence. Everything that is being built in Montenegro is being built on divisions. Since ancient times, we have been prone to blood feuds and divisions on ‘bjelasi’ and ‘zelenasi’, chetniks and communists. But these divisions are much deeper. We are unique in Europe and in the world for the divisions. Montenegro cannot be built on divisions,” Amfilohije said.

The metropolitan added that Montenegro was in a deep crisis.

“We are in a deep moral crisis, from which the political and economic crisis arises, as well as the crisis of the entire society. To heal Montenegro, it is necessary to reach the spiritual and moral restoration of Montenegro and Montenegrins, regardless of how they declared themselves. When this happens, there will be a rebirth and then there will not be a deficient Parliament,” he said.

MPs lifted Medojevic’s immunity on Thursday night, thus approving initiation of criminal proceedings and remanding the PzP leader in custody, as the special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) required. Medojevic is suspected of money laundering. After nearly five hours of turbulent debate, DF MPs stayed in the Parliament. As they said, they will defend their party colleague against arrest.
