Human beings in numbers – definitely not a popular thing. Let alone appropriate. But the statistics based on numbers can often shake us and clearly show how equal or unequal we are in the society. One of such examples in the Montenegrin society is the position of women, which is even nowadays unequal.

Although they are considered to be the most educated part of the population, there are officially 4,794 unemployed  women with university degrees.

Women in Montenegro often fail to exercise their rights, particularly right to e work.

On 12 November there were 25 183 women on the list of unemployed persons, according to the most recent data provided by the Employment Agency of Montenegro.

Obviously, university degree is not a guarantee for getting a job. Around 163 students completed their master studies, and 56,4% were females. Data of the Employment Agency of Montenegro show that there are around 4,621 women with BA studies of Specialized studies finished. Around 168 of unemployed women have MR titles, and five of them have Phd studies finished.

One of the “business barriers” is also the pregnancy. Women are often asked if they plan to be mothers during job interviews. That women in Montenegro are faced with the unequal position is supported by the fact that the average salary for women amounts 430 EUR, which is by 23% less than salaries for men.
