Around 6.000 citizens have deposits higher than €50.000

Around 6.000 citizens have deposit higher than €50.000 in commercial banks in Montenegro and they are entitled to the repayment of guaranteed deposit, Dan writes.

In case banks went bankrupt, they would be paid €306.100.000, which is 24,52% of total deposits for physical persons, or 17,61% of total protected deposits of physical persons.

“On 31 December 2019, thirteen banks were members of the Fund for the Protection of Deposit.  On that same day, deposits of clients in all banks were protected by the Montenegrin deposit protection system. Out of total deposit in banks, 49,32% referred to economic deposits, whereas 50,67% referred to the retail deposits. At annual level, retail deposits are by 3,55% lower, whereas deposits of the economy are by 5,04% higher compared with 2018”, annual report states.

Share of the funds deposited by the population amounted to €1,74 billion at the end of last year, which is 50,68%.

“Number of depositors at the end of 2019 amounts to 762.932, 91,84% of total depositors. Around 49,32% refers to the sector of economy. Number of depositors in the sector of economy is 65.467, which is 7,88% of total number”, the report states.

Protection of deposit implies deposits in banks made on the day of the protected case or before it. The protected case occurs the day decision on the bankruptcy procedure is rendered.
