Assets acquired through criminal activity will be returned to state ownership

Marko Kovač

The law on seizure and confiscation of assets acquired through criminal activity is a strong message of the country that crime won’t be profitable for anyone and that assets acquired illegally will be returned to the state, the Justice Minister, Marko Kovac, assessed.

He also noted that the afore-mentioned law was one of the most important tools in the fight against organized crime and corruption.

“It will enable the full implementation of the economic and social function of assets or its protection through confiscation of assets acquired through criminal activity”, Minister Kovac said ahead of the regional conference ‘Effective confiscation of assets acquired through criminal activity in line with European standards’.

The conference was organized by the Montenegrin Ministry of Justice, AIRE Centre and the Regional Anti-corruption Initiative, and backed by the Government of the United Kingdom.
