Banks increase fees and commissions due to loans and illiquidity

Banke zakočile

Some of the banks on the domestic market have increased the amounts of fees and commissions they charge to clients since the beginning of the year, Pobjeda has been told unofficially. This was done due to the increase in business risk resulting from the growth of non-performing loans, weak liquidity of the economy, and the overall situation in the country.

Basic services, such as opening an account with the local population and paying out cash, have remained free.

Commenting on the fact that the banks have raised the amounts of fees and commissions, the Secretary General of the Association of Banks, Mr Bratislav Pejakovic, has told Pobjeda that nothing is happening that has not already been registered in the region.

“It is true that lately we have increased tariffs at some banks, which have duly informed customers, but the increase in banking tariffs has been present in the region since the end of 2020”, says Mr Pejakovic, adding that bank services are still lower in relation to the EU.

He points out that there are 12 banks on the Montenegrin market and that, according to the law, a client can have an account in several of them.
