Belgrade’s meddling just a stepping stone, Garčević

Meetings between Serbia’s head of state Aleksandar Vučić and representatives of the pro-Serbian parties in Montenegro are not a novelty and are usually encouraged by Belgrade, former ambassador of Montenegro to NATO, Vesko Garčević, told Serbian Danas daily.

“I’d say leaders of the Serbian parties in Montenegro should be more independent and committed to Montenegro, also better organized and less dependent of Belgrade’s or Russia’s support. Just take a look at the leaders of the Serbian parties in Croatia – none of them who depended on Belgrade’s will exists in Croatia’s political life,” Garčević told.

As for the lack of the highest-level official meetings and the fact Aleksandar Vučić hasn’t visited Montenegro for 6 years already, according to Garčević, Belgrade has been trying to diminish Podgorica’s political influence, at the same time being intensely interested in its affairs.
