Boskovic: Montenegro’s membership in NATO is not directed against Russia

Montenegro’s membership in NATO is not directed against any country, including Russia, said defence minister Predrag Boskovic during a meeting with his Slovenian counterpart Andreja Katic.

“This is not a threat to Russia’s interests and I hope they will figure it out,” said the minister.

He added that if Russia continued to influence developments in Montenegro, the institutions would provide an adequate response.

Boskovic was optimistic that the situation would stabilise.

Katic agreed with him. She said that Montenegro’s membership in NATO could contribute to improving the situation in the Western Balkans.

“Montenegro’s membership in NATO will contribute to peace in the Western Balkans,” she said.

The ministers emphasised that cooperation between the two countries were at a satisfactory level, and announced its continuation.

“Countries in the region that are members of NATO should spread open door policy because NATO topic does not finish with Montenegro. It will continue to cooperate with Slovenia, particularly now that we’re at the same table of the alliance,” said Boskovic.
