Brajovic: Parliament is not a church, Amfilohije welcome to respect our rules

Commenting on metropolitan Amfilohije’s visit to Democratic Front (DF) officials who have spent five days in the national assembly, parliament speaker Ivan Brajovic said today that the Parliament was neither church nor circus, and there were places intended for believers to meet their priests or other church representatives.

“The parliament is not a courtroom or a church. Everyone is welcome, but in accordance with the law and our rules”, Brajovic said.

Commenting on president Filip Vujanovic’s initiative of  to keep Medojevic free pending trial, Brajovic said that everyone must do their job.

“The Parliament was professional in the case of lifting Medojevic’s immunity”, he said.

Vujanovic sent a letter to the supreme state prosecutor Ivica Stankovic asking him to issue an instruction to the chief special prosecutor Milivoje Katnic suggesting that there is no need for putting Democratic Front (DF) leader Nebojsa Medojevic in custody and that he may remain free pending trial.

According to the statement, Vujanovic spoke to Medojevic on the phone this morning and the DF leader told him that he would respect the prosecutor’s and court’s summoning and that he would do nothing to avoid or hinder the conduct of criminal proceedings.

DF MPs have been in Parliament since Thursday, when the parliament lifted Medojevic’s immunity. Metropolitan Amfilohije came to Parliament to visit DF MPs on Sunday. They met in front of the Parliament building. DF leader Andrija Mandic said that Brajovic banned Amfilohije from entering the building.

Special State Prosecutor’s Office suspects Medojevic of money laundering.
