Until yesterday, Minister of Finance and Social Welfare Milojko Spajić was convinced that the European Union (EU) would meet the request of DPM Dritan Abazović, who asked the EU for help to repay a loan to a Chinese bank for the construction of the first Bar-Boljari highway section. However, a short and clear answer has arrived from Brussels today – the EU is not repaying loans from third parties.
European Commission spokeswoman Ana Pisonero Hernandez has stated that the EU has established a concrete instrument to support major infrastructure projects in the Western Balkans, and stressed that the economic and investment plan will help use funds from other public and private investors, including the European Investment Bank, under very favorable conditions.
