The Smokovac loop represents the integral part of the motorway section Farmaci-Smokovac, and it was envisaged to construct it in the second phase of the motorway construction. Construction of this loop will be particularly challenging as it’s supposed to link two motorways: Bar–Boljare and the Adriatic-Ionian motorway, and the main road M2, said Goran Vujović, the director of the business unit for the motorway construction within Monteput company.
“Bearing in mind the contract provisions and usual FIDIC procedures, we cannot say there are some ‘shortcomings’ or ‘ignorance and irresponsibility’ as certain media reported. No job has ever been performed through media and political discussions, but rather based on professional opinions, which has been our core principle from the very beginning of this project,” Vujović told Pobjeda, a daily.
The contract itself stipulates that the motorway construction will cost the state €809 million, and expenditures could be 10% higher than expected.
Although the Smokovac loop has been envisaged as the part of the second phase of the motorway construction and it actually didn’t represent part of the preliminary design submitted by the contractor, it was found that it should be included in the contract for better operation and completion of the overall works in the project.
