Damjanovic: I don’t exclude the possibility of an arrangement with IMF, parliamentary elections won’t happen in 2023

Aleksandar Damjanović

In an interview for VoA, the Montenegrin Finance Minister, says that borrowing – foreseen in this year’s budget – is being discussed again with partner banks, announcing a new credit arrangement in February. Minister Damjanovic doesn’t exclude the possibility of having an arrangement with the International Monetary Fund, IMF, in case of the market conditions get worse, pointing out that this option is not currently being considered.

Commenting on the political crisis in Montenegro, the Minister says he doesn’t expect the extraordinary parliamentary elections to be held this year, as insisted by a part of the political parties, the public, the USA and the EU. However, he expects that talks over the government formation continue regardless of the outcome of the presidential election scheduled for 19 March. As of Monday, he announces talks of a part of the parliamentary majority and the government on a possible presidential candidate.

Minister Damjanovic visited Washington and met with Gabriel Escobar, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, among others.
