Damjanović: New rules might apply in the election year as well

Considering the intention of the governing structures to further destabilize situation in judiciary and prosecutor’s office, it is clear that the red line dividing the state and the citizens from the permanent discord, serious internal conflict and total radicalization of political stage has been reached, said Mr Aleksandar Damjanović, head of the special caucus.

In a statement for Dan, Mr Damjanović said that it was the last moment for the opposition to do something it hadn’t done since 2016 – sit at the negotiation table and reach an agreement on joint action.

“It should be done in the format of all 39 opposition MPs and in the format of the dialogue with the representatives of free political and professional public, with the aim of conveying message to all governing parties to sit and talk about current issues”, says Mr Damjanović.

He warned that possible destabilization inside nations could destabilize entire society and undermine foundations of the state.

“I want to believe that the government will realize that this can’t lead to anything good and that this is our last chance to start serious political dialogue with opposition and define rules for the next free elections. There are no formal obstacles for the amendments to the electoral legislation. If there’s no will for dialogue, then the response must be in accordance with the signatures MPs had put on the Agreement on Future – total boycott of elections”, said Mr Damjanović.

The Committee was doomed to fail

In Mr Damjanović’s opinion, the Committee on Comprehensive Reform of Electoral Legislation was doomed to fail from the very beginning.

“From the point of view of the governing coalition, it fulfilled its task because national and international public has been fooled for more than a year. That was the goal of DPS. Creators of the fake deal will assume responsibility. The latest attempt to twist the political game can’t remedy enormous damage inflicted to opposition-oriented voters”, says Mr Damjanović.
