Djukanovic: The future is at stake

During his stroll down Porto Montenegro earlier today, DPS presidential candidate Milo Djukanovic made a point of being clear about the forthcoming elections – he expects to win in the first round.

Although the word ‘historical’ has been somewhat spent, he said, these are no ordinary elections.

“We are proud of our economic sustainability, we have independence, and we are part of NATO integration, and we are committed to defending these values. We cannot be casual about it because the opposition would overthrow these values in a heartbeat”, Mr. Djukanovic said for Radio Tivat.

He also confessed to being elated about minority parties supporting him and proceeded to mention mutual political history, new generations, our multicultural life, the importance of antifascism.

Mr. Djukanovic was in Tivat today for a meeting with Mr. David Margason, Executive Director of Adriatic Marinas, with whom he visited building sites in progress all around Porto Montenegro, one of the best nautical destinations on the Mediterranean.

Another 550 mil to be invested

“It is a pleasure to see here today a successful project, which we started a decade ago, which has so far seen investments of over 550 million euros and whose employees are mainly Montenegrin citizens.”

Mr. Djukanovic was sure to mention both the initial and current investors, whose skilful management made Porto Montenegro the brand that it is today. He added some very exciting development plans mean another 500 to 550 million euros will be invested over the next decade, making this one of the most expensive and exquisite projects ever realised in Montenegro.

As one of the most valuable brands for tourism and Montegengro in general, Porto Montengro elevated not only building and service standards, but also set the bar high for all other investors and projects, he said.

Mr. Djukanovic was also happy to report successful projects that followed suit, like Portonovi and Luštica and said it is the country’s task to make sure they have the room to grow and work all year round.  One of the main and most pressing obligations is investing in airports, especially in Tivat.

He added a new motorway is necessary along the coastline, so that business guests and tourists alike can easily reach their planned destinations from the airport in Tivat. And from his perspective in Porto Montenegro today, this is not a farfetched plan, he said.

Mr. Djukanovic also touched on the alleged 5-million giveaway, saying that new investors cannot be held responsible for structures previously occupying Port Montenegro locations.

“No one was pardoned, but i would gladly give away five or six millions to anyone willing to invest 550. And open this many jobs. People who say these things know this to be true, but continue to produce this bad image around every valuable project in Montenegro. Luckily, no one believes them”, Djukanovic concluded and proceed to Budva to his next meeting with local party officials.
