After four years of investigation, Jana Bovan, the physician of the Emergency Center in Budva, is accused of gross negligence in providing proper treatment for Savo Kovačević.

The indictment accused Dr Bovan of violating professional guidelines in treatment of her patient. It also cited that she relied on statements of Kovačević’s brother who claimed his brother was drunk and therefore failed to recognize stroke symptoms. During the investigation, it has been determined that on September 9, 2014 Dr Bovan assumed her patient (Savo Kovačević) was drunk and discharged him to self or family care. She stressed that Kovačević should take a rest and regularly control his health. After several hours, Savo Kovačević passed away. The autopsy showed that the man had died of a stroke.

Bovan’s lawyer, Ratko Pantović, told Dan daily that he had filed a complaint against indicted physician, explaining that it didn’t allege facts but rather assumptions, which is contrary to the Criminal Code and criminal proceedings.
