US President Donald Trump awarded the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel Velibor Bakrac, the head of the Defence Policy Directorate at the Ministry of Defence’s.
The Legion of Merit is the highest US military decoration that a member of foreign armed forces can receive.
Lora Cooper, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence, presented the medal to Lieutenant Colonel Bakrac, during the 2BS forum in Budva that was held on 11 and 12 May.
She explained that Bakrac was decorated for his exceptional service as the Montenegrin defence attaché in Washington, from September 2011 to August 2016, as well as for his work on “strengthening the US-Montenegro bilateral cooperation”.
Bakrac said that it was an award to the Armed Forces of Montenegro, Defence Ministry and the country for their commitment to integration, developing modern troops that were ready for new tasks and duties within NATO.
