Đonović: Democrats are a joker of the Serbian Orthodox Church

It was pretty clear that Democrats will take the first opportunity to abandon the Committee on the Reform of Electoral Legislation. But the reason for that came as a surprise, considering that they have been refusing to give their opinion on the church issue.

Just recently they have said that the law on religious communities “isn’t acceptable to any church or religious community in Montenegro”, and claimed that Government’s intention was to seize religious facilities.

Day after this statement was released, Democrats left the Committee and said they wouldn’t come back until the proposal for this law was dropped.

Mr Ranko Đonović, political analyst, isn’t surprised with the Democrats’ behavior.

“They nod in agreement to the European Union, to the Serbian Orthodox Church, to Democratic Front… In my opinion, they are jokers of the Serbian Orthodox Church and Great-Serbian nationalists. For them, everything goes, except for our own state. They are ready to listen to Mr Aivo Orav, Metropolitan Amfilohije, they are ready to be in coalition with Mr Andrija Mandić. Such policy will eventually fail”, says Mr Đonović.

Mr Đonović says that Democrats agree with the DF political matrix, although they are trying to hide it from the public.

“Now when they started to lose votes, they are playing that Serbian option again. You’ll notice that members of the party are people from the 7th Battalion, the most ardent opponents of Montenegrin nation and Montenegrin church”, says Mr Đonović and adds that Democrats were only waiting for Amfilohije’s sign to voice their opinion.
