Draskovic: Montenegro ‘shut the door’ on Russian meddling in the Balkans

The leader of the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) and former foreign minister of Serbia and Montenegro, Vuk Draskovic, estimated that Montenegro’s NATO membership shut the door on Russian meddling in the Balkans.

He said he was not surprised by Russia’s approach towards Montenegro, as its political and economic goal was to return to the Balkans, for which it needed a military base.

“It’s obvious that NATO ruined their plans. Montenegro represented their path to approaching Serbia, Bosnia and Macedonia. Thus, Russia is thwarted in its desire to establish military bases in countries where it has already been deeply rooted, i.e. in Serbia and Republika Srpska”, Draskovic stated in his interview on the Živa istina socio-political show.

He concluded that Russian propaganda is stronger and more effective than in the west. “Russian propaganda does not accept facts and spreads whatever it wishes, whereas people are inclined to accept the offered without any checkups.”
