Đukanović: Every story of the society development starts and finishes with education

In accordance with the global celebration of the World Children’s Day, today in Montenegro, UNICEF endorsed Golden ombudsmen in taking over the institution of the President of Montenegro.

Representatives of youth welcomed Montenegro’s president in order to discuss with him rights of children in the country. President emphasized crucial role of school and family in suppressing violence against children and stressed the importance of ethical media reporting on children’s rights.

Mr Đukanović considers that any story related to society development starts and finishes with education. He said that improvement of the position of education staff was crucial in the process.

“The advantage of the generation I belong to is that position of an employee in the education sector was much better than it is today. It was an organized system of values in the former Yugoslavia where the middle class of every society was respected and secured”, said Mr Đukanović.

Golden advisors touched on the problem of the increasing number of young people leaving Montenegro.

“I’m from Berane and I can tell that a lot of my peers moved with their families. That trend is present in Rožaje, Plav and Bijelo Polje”, said Anastasija Đukić.

President thinks this trend is present in the entire region, even in Europe. He says there are positive and negative aspects of it.

“Only when we reach the level of development to create enough jobs, enable high-quality education, healthcare protection and other features that a society should offer, can we be sure that young people won’t leave Montenegro”, said Mr Đukanović.

He pointed out that results in the improvement of children’s rights had been achieved through significant support and cooperation with international organizations, UNICEF primarily.

Head of UNICEF representation office in Montenegro, Mr Osama Kogali, said fight against poverty and violence were key challenges.

“Every third child is exposed to poverty risk in Montenegro. Two thirds of children on Montenegro have experienced some form of violence. Together, we can change that so that every children has every right”, said Mr Kogali.
