The situation in Montenegro regarding the forthcoming presidential election, pro-Western course and the influence of Russia, according to Jakša Šćekić, a journalist from Belgrade, is a marathon race.
„Both Serbia and Montenegro are running a marathon. But Montenegro went further in that marathon, towards the goal called „the EU“. Many chapters have been opened, Montenegro became NATO member and now imagine yourself running a marathon and just when you’re approaching the finish line, suddenly everybody says –’Stop, go back, let’s choose something else’.
Šćekić considers that it would be a big mistake that the president of Montenegro be under the influence of Russia.
„ Milo Đukanović is the guarantee that Montenegro will become the EU member. I’m always for the EU membership and I don’t think that big forces should intervene. Montenegro has started a journey and it should keep going that way. The common interest of all its citizens is to have a better life, to have more peaceful life, to enjoy fully the right to the freedom of movement, to work everywhere they want in the world… without doubt“, he said.
He also added: „Milo Đukanović and the Democratic Party of Socialists took Montenegro through some very tough times. And it worked. I visit Montenegro often and I see it’s getting better. The EU wants peace, the whole world wants it. It’s time to welcome the bright side“, says Šćekić.
