Đukanović won over 50 % of votes in Podgorica

New president of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, who won the presidential elections with around 54% of votes,  won over 50 % of votes even in Podgorica, according to the information CdM has.

This outcome of the elections will definitely be stimulating for the Democratic Party of Socialists and the local elections scheduled for the May, 27.

After declaring victory, Đukanović said that Montenegro will keep moving on towards the EU.

“We won’t let our citizens down. Big thanks to all citizens. We want to unite Montenegrin political potentials so that we can efficiently resolve the problems we are facing. Temptations and challenges await us. Economic development is the priority. I’ll do my best to overcome divisions in the country. This outcome is a great incentive, since, in May, elections are scheduled in many municipalities. This is a good start for a celebration in May, as well”. Said the new president of Montenegro.

 

Milo Đukanović’s biography

He was born on February, 15, in 1962 in Nikšić. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Podgorica.

In the last two decades, Đukanović has been the leader of the Government of Montenegro six times, and during this period, he played the role of the president once. He took two “breaks” which lasted about two years, but then he would always come back.

On February 15 in 1991, on his 29th birthday, he was elected for the Prime Minister for the very first time and that made him the youngest Prime Minister in Europe.

He performed the duties of the Prime Minister three times.

He was the leader of the political block advocating independent Montenegro and in May of 2006, Montenegro became an independent country.

Coalition for the European Montenegro, with Đukanović at its head,  took absolute power at the elections held on September 10, in 2006.

At the beginning of October of 2006, and for the first time, Đukanović decided to resign from the highest state functions.

He acted in the capacity of the MP in the Parliament of Montenegro from 2006 to 2008.

His big comeback happened on February 29 in 2008 when he served as Prime Minister again.
