Durmitor’s skorup – the sixth protected product in Montenegro

Durmitor’s skorup (clotted cream) is the sixth protected product in Montenegro, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

This product is now protected by the designation of origin at a national level.

Clotted cream producers from Žabljak, Plužine and Šavnik will have benefits from the certification of this quality designation. They are all united into an NGO “Association of the Producers of Durmitor’s Skorup”.

The product specification, a document that contains all the necessary elements confirming the specificity of the product, states that Durmitor’s skorup is produced according to the traditional technology and is the inevitable segment of history and culture of the entire region of Durmitor.

Specific climate conditions and richness and uniqueness of flora in the areas where the cattle is bred, impact the quality and sensory features of raw milk and skorup.

Durmitor’s skorup has a specific shape, taste and smell and it’s a piquant foodstuff of high nutritional and energy value. Due to the activities of characteristic micro-flora, some very complex physical and chemical changes happen. These changes form a typical structure and aroma of skorup. The use of “mješina” gives this product a special characteristic.

Durmitor’s skorup will now obtain greater possibilities for more successful placement to greater number of tourists who come to see Durmitor.
